Aluminium melting furnace completely refurbished and relined

A long-standing customer from the aluminium industry commissioned SBS Refractory Service with the complete core refurbishment of its aluminium melting furnace. After intensive continuous operation the existing refractory lining had reached the end of its service life. Increasing wear, slag build-up and declining thermal efficiency made a complete relining necessary in order to restore the furnace to full performance.
The old lining had to be removed completely and without residue, without damaging the steel shell
Tight deadlines called for precise planning and coordinated execution of all work steps
The new brick lining had to be matched exactly to the furnace geometry and the customer's specific operating conditions
The controlled heat-up after relining required strict adherence to the material-specific heat-up curve
Following a detailed survey, our engineering team developed an optimised lining concept. The old lining was demolished mechanically in strict compliance with all safety requirements. All residues were disposed of properly and the steel shell was checked for damage.
The new brick lining was built up layer by layer with high-quality refractory materials – matched to the thermal and chemical requirements of the aluminium melting process. Our experienced installation team worked with the utmost precision to ensure a homogeneous and durable lining.
Once the lining was complete, controlled dry-out and heat-up were carried out in accordance with the specified heat-up curve. The furnace was handed over to production on schedule and was able to resume regular melting operations immediately.
