The furnace hood of an aluminium melting furnace relined monolithically.

The furnace hood of an aluminium melting furnace was due for refractory lining. The hood closes off the furnace chamber at the top and is exposed to radiant heat, thermal cycling and attack by aluminium vapours. A dense, crack-resistant lining is what determines heat losses and service life here.
Radiant heat and constant thermal cycling at the hood
Burner and extraction openings have to be integrated to size and gas-tight
Aluminium vapours attack porous surfaces
Shortest possible shutdown for ongoing wheel casting operations
Monolithic lining of the entire hood – a dense surface with minimal joints instead of vulnerable shaped bricks
Clean, dimensionally accurate integration of the burner and extraction openings
Evenly screeded surface for low build-up and easy cleaning
Controlled dry-out before returning the furnace to service

Freshly lined hood – dense, monolithic surface

Cleanly integrated burner opening in the new lining

Evenly screeded surfaces for low build-up
