A 5–7 cm protective layer for sustainably higher productivity and service life

After an extended period in service, the refractory lining of an aluminium melting furnace was showing the first signs of wear. To extend the service life and avoid a cost-intensive complete repair, the customer opted for professional maintenance gunning by SBS Refractory Service.
The existing lining was still serviceable but showed early wear at exposed points
An even protective layer of 5–7 cm had to be applied to irregular surfaces
The gunning had to improve slag resistance without adversely affecting the furnace geometry
The measure was to extend the remaining service life significantly and cost-effectively
Our shotcrete team carefully prepared the surfaces and then applied a 5–7 cm protective layer. The gunning mix used was selected specifically for the requirements of aluminium melting operations.
The dry gunning process allowed seamless application even on irregular geometries. The applied layer improves resistance to slag attack and prevents dross from adhering.
Professional maintenance gunning extended the service life of the lining sustainably – at considerably lower cost than a complete repair. At the same time, aluminium yield improved thanks to lower slag losses.
