How often does the lining of a waste incineration plant need to be renewed?

The main wear zones – combustion chamber, grate transition and hopper area – are typically partially renewed every 1–3 years during the annual outage. A complete relining of the combustion chamber is required every 5–8 years. The exact intervals depend on the waste composition and plant operation.

What is the difference between a refractory and an acid-resistant lining?

Refractory linings protect against high temperatures and thermal wear in the combustion chamber. Acid-resistant linings are used in flue gas cleaning, where aggressive acids (hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid) attack the lining at lower temperatures. The two systems require different materials and installation techniques.

Can refractory work be carried out while other trades are working during the outage?

Yes, we coordinate our work closely with the overall outage planning. Our teams work in parallel with other trades and coordinate on site with the outage management. Through multi-shift operation we make optimum use of the available time windows.

Do you also offer services for flue gas cleaning systems?

Yes, in addition to refractory linings in the high-temperature area, we supply acid-resistant linings for scrubbers, stacks and other components of the flue gas cleaning system. This includes both brick-built and coated acid-protection solutions with materials such as graphite, PTFE or acid-resistant bricks.
