Combustion chamber fundamentally overhauled – reduced energy costs, optimised plant performance

As part of planned maintenance measures, the operator of a biomass power plant commissioned SBS Refractory Service with the fundamental refurbishment of the combustion chamber. After an extended period in service the side brick lining was showing clear signs of wear, expansion joints were damaged and deposits were impairing the thermal efficiency of the plant.
The side brickwork was worn over a large area and had to be completely renewed
Damaged expansion joints called for professional re-execution using high-quality fibre blankets
Stubborn deposits in the combustion chamber were impairing heat transfer and had to be thoroughly removed
The work had to be completed within a planned shutdown period
Our team first carried out a systematic damage analysis and drew up an agreed refurbishment concept. The side brickwork was completely dismantled and rebuilt using durable refractory materials.
The expansion joints were packed with high-quality fibre blankets and professionally reset – matched to the thermal expansion characteristics of the combustion chamber. The entire combustion chamber was also thoroughly cleaned.
The combination of renewed brickwork, optimised expansion joints and cleaned surfaces significantly improved the thermal efficiency of the plant and sustainably lowered energy costs.
